This seems to be one area where most of private investment is targeted - yet another hotel, lodge, night club or restaurant. The government continues to promote this sector heavily despite the obvious lack of need to do so. For instance, the Ethiopian Embassy in Washington, D.C. asserts that "...Tremendous opportunities exist for investors in the [Travel & Tourism] area of hotels, lodges and international restaurants." 

Ethiopia is indeed a stunningly beautiful country and its rich historical and cultural heritage dating back over 2,000 years can be counted as one of the wonders of the world. Increased political stability and continued economic growth (such as the 1991-1997) would help this sector. As usual, less government involvement in the advertising the sector would also help; the private sector would no doubt fill in the void.
